Unfortunately, elemental weapons spat at you don’t do elemental damage… but you wouldn’t expect normal physical hits from them to anyway. You can! Just like a boomerang, you can catch the weapons that it spits at you. Now that I’m done with what I came to do, let’s experiment a bit! First of all, can you actually catch a weapon it spits back at you? If I had to guess, I would say that it’s limited to the common Hylian-made stuff. I never got a Royal Guard’s Sword or an elemental blade, despite them being the same type and shape of weapon. It seems to be a limited pool of weapons as well.

Well, that answers that: you get a random metal weapon of the type that you give the Octorok. Okay, I’m going to really try to catch the nex– Well, now we know that the sword CAN BE a Knight’s Broadsword… so there goes the Sword sword idea that they 100% should’ve gone with. Nice! I saved before dropping the sword so I can test this multiple times… Now all I have to do is try to catch the sword when the Octorok spits it ou–ĪUGH SON OF A SWITCH. Thankfully there was a Rock Octorok just where I remembered it being, due west of Gut Check Rock. Wouldn’t it be cool if when cleaned it turned out to be the normally amiibo-exclusive Sword sword? If a weapon was going to clean up into something specific, it would be this one, the first rusty weapon (and first sword!) you can find, right next to where you start the game. To test this out, I decided to DRAW THE SWORD FROM THE STONE outside of the Temple of Time. I’ve heard people say that you get a random weapon from it, and that’s generally been my experience… but is it actually true? I mean, I probably wouldn’t notice if a particular rusty weapon always cleaned up into the same thing, since the mechanic is used so rarely. I just realized that I don’t actually know how the mechanic of cleaning rusty weapons works in Breath of the Wild.
